D) Essays

1. All essays, except essay 1 of quarter 1,  will be graded based on College Board rubric (0-9) to which a
 numerical value will be given: 2/68, 3/72, 4/75 , 5/77, 6/82, 7/85, 8/92, 9/95).

2. There will be 5-7 essays per quarter .

3. Except for first essay, all essays will be done in class without notes nor dictionary.

4.The essays can be redone , Quarter 1 and 2 only, within 3 days ,  once only, and given  back with the original graded paper. Should the essay be redone by someone else than the student, it will be an automatic zero. Please come and see me if questions.

5. 1st Essay for 1st quarter :
First essay will be graded based on 1 point per mistake and can be redone for a 35 points bonus. 2nd essay must be attached to original one.

6. How to redo an essay?

quarter 1: Each essay will be corrected completely. then you will explain the corrections on a typed  document with 3 columns, from left to right:
the mistake, the correction and why it's corrected that way.
ex: un jupe bleu--->
une jupe bleue

un jupe       une jupe        jupe : nom féminin singulier
 bleu          bleue             adjectif s'accorde en genre et
                                       en nombre  avec le nom
                                       qu'il décrit;
jupe étant féminin singulier,
                                       bleue doit avoir un  "e"
so each mistake must be explained, do not just write " I used the wrong ..." . You can explain the rationale of the correction in English.

Quarter 2:

each mistake will be underlined and coded, no longer corrected by me.  You can redo the essay and follow the above mentionned directions.

E) Listening/ Labs
can be done in class or lab (our days in labs rotate)
use this link for listening activities  at home to practice

F) Reading
to enhance discussion, learn thematic vocabulary
absolutely essential, indispensable! you must read the article, be able to infer meaning, understand vocabulary from context and not spend your time with a dictionary

G) Speaking
very important, try to use new structures, new vocabulary everyday . For those of you who are more reserved, make sure you go out of your comfort zone and sit next to someone slightly more ebullient than yourself.

all of this is explored in conjunction with grammar En Bonne Forme (EBF) et Cours moyen et/ou  supérieur
